Terms of use
These are the conditions on which this site is made available to read. They are written plainly, because a set of conditions nobody can follow is not much use to either side.
Who runs this site
This site is operated by a private individual based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. It is not a company and does not trade as one. It holds no dealer appointment, no rental licence, no brokerage arrangement and no agency relationship with any manufacturer, importer, seller, rental firm or event organiser, and it does not act on behalf of any of them.
The address and telephone number published on the contact page are the correct and only means of reaching the person responsible for what appears here. Any message purporting to come from this site through some other channel, particularly one asking for payment to an account you have not been told about by telephone, should be treated with suspicion and checked by calling the published number.
What the route notes are
The route notes, articles and other written material on this site are personal observations recorded while driving these roads at an unhurried pace. They describe the conditions found on those particular drives. They are offered as a considered starting point for planning your own journey and nothing more.
They are not navigation instructions, not a safety certification of any road, and not a statement about conditions on the day you travel. Road surfaces change, services close, diversions appear, border arrangements are revised and weather transforms a straightforward stage into a demanding one. Always check the current position before you set off and use your own judgement on the road, which is better informed than any page can be.
Your responsibility as a driver
You remain wholly responsible for your vehicle, for your driving and for every decision you make on the road. That includes the condition and roadworthiness of the car, the insurance cover in place, the documents carried, the fitness of the driver and the choice of whether a particular route, a particular day or a particular hour is suitable for you and your passengers.
Nothing on this site relieves you of the duty to obey traffic law in the United Arab Emirates or in any other jurisdiction you drive through, to observe speed limits and signage, and to stop when conditions or your own fatigue require it. Where a note describes a road as easy, that describes the road, not your circumstances on the day you drive it.
Services and prices
Prices shown on the services page are indicative figures given in AED so that you can plan. They are not an offer capable of acceptance. The price that applies to any piece of work is the one confirmed directly before the work begins, and nothing is charged until you have agreed it in that conversation.
Services are personal advisory work: written route plans, seated assessments and accompanied test drives. They do not include any mechanical inspection, any certification of a vehicle's condition, any valuation for insurance or finance purposes, and any guarantee about a car you go on to buy or rent. Where a matter needs a qualified professional, you will be told so and encouraged to engage one.
Copyright and fair use
The text and photographs on this site are the work of the person who runs it and remain that person's property. You are welcome to read the material, print a page for your own use, and keep a route note in the car. That is what it is for, and no permission needs to be asked for any of it.
Republishing substantial parts of the text elsewhere, reproducing the photographs, or using the material commercially is not permitted without asking first. Short quotations with a clear credit and a link back are fine and always welcome. If you would like to use something more substantially, telephone the number on the contact page and ask; the answer is usually yes.
Limits of responsibility
The material here is provided in good faith and with real care, but it is provided as it stands. No promise is made that it is complete, that it is current on the day you read it, or that it will be suitable for your particular vehicle, your particular passengers or your particular plans. Errors are corrected promptly when they are pointed out.
To the fullest extent the law allows, no responsibility is accepted for loss, damage, delay, cost or inconvenience arising from acting on anything read here, from a journey undertaken after reading it, or from the site being temporarily unavailable. Nothing in these conditions excludes any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, and nothing here restricts your rights as a consumer.
Changes, and the law that applies
Pages are edited as roads and conditions change, and these conditions may be revised from time to time. The version published here is the one that applies, and continuing to use the site after a revision means accepting the revised version. Material changes are noted at the top of the page for a reasonable period.
These conditions and any dispute arising from the use of this site are governed by the law of the United Arab Emirates, and the courts of the United Arab Emirates have jurisdiction. In practice, almost everything that has ever come up has been settled by a short telephone call, and you are encouraged to try that first.
